Baker City, Oregon
Fred Schomburg, a longtime Baker City resident passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, April 19, 2024.
Fred was born on November 6, 1939, in Hannover Germany. His father, a German Solider, was killed during World War II. Fred and his mother, Marianne (Ria) Ritz, immigrated to the United States in 1951 having endured many hardships surviving in a war-torn country. Eventually making their way to Baker City, Fred graduated from Baker High School in 1958 and served in the Army from 1958-1960.
After his military service, Fred returned to Baker City and married Janet (Rouse) Schomburg in 1963. They were married 53 years until her passing in 2016; raised three children; and had many great stories of wild times with their friends! In his later years Fred picked up a more sensible pastime to share with his friends - Golf, which he also enjoyed playing with his son-in-laws.
Fred loved his family and will be remembered for always having an "open door" in his home for everyone.
He is survived by his three children, Kelle Landavazo, Pat Schomburg, Kasie Perkins and son-in-law Chris Perkins; grandchildren Krista Creasia, Marcus Landavazo, Garrett Landavazo, Micheal Perkins and Allison Schomburg; great grandchildren Bria Landavazo, Stella Creasia and Blaire Landavazo; and sister Melody Brutcher.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at his home.
Contributions in his name can be made to Heart and Home Hospice of Baker City through Coles Tribute Center at 1950 Place Street, Baker City, OR 97814.
